Why Pumpkin Extract Supplement Helps Prevent Scooting

Have you seen your dog scoot? A pumpkin extract supplement for dogs may help!

Scooting is when your pup drags their bottom across the ground.

You might want to discipline them, as it can be messy.

But, don’t get mad.

They are trying to reduce discomfort on their bottom.

Why Do Dogs Scoot?

Dogs scoot for many reasons.

Typically, there is an irritation in their anus.

Sometimes increased fiber, or a pumpkin extract supplement for dogs, may help.

Other times, veterinary care is required.

Fleas And Tapeworms

Fleas and tapeworms may cause irritation.

Flea bites are irritating.

Dogs who consume worm-infested fleas develop tapeworms.

Using a monthly flea preventative helps eliminate this problem.

Rectal Prolapse And Swelling

If your pet has a swollen anus, or you see a rectal prolapse (a mass sticking out of their anus), consult your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Anal Sac Inflammation

Your dog’s anal sac contains a substance they use to communicate.

When a dog defecates, the glands expel the liquid inside.

If their anal sacs aren’t expelled, the fluid thickens and they become impacted.

Especially in smaller dogs, anal sacs can become blocked, inflamed or abscessed.

Anal sac inflammation causes your dog to scoot for relief.

Your groomer or veterinarian can relieve your dog’s anal sacs manually.

To prevent this issue in the future, consider increasing your pet’s fiber intake.

How Fiber From Pumpkin Extract Supplements Prevents Scooting

Your dog’s diet affects their stool.

By increasing your pet’s fiber intake, you can help make their stool easier to pass.

This can prevent anal gland inflammation and scooting.

Soluble Fiber

During digestion, soluble fiber attracts water and turns to gel.

This gel slows digestion.

Oat bran, beans, some fruits and vegetables, and psyllium contain soluble fiber.

Soluble fiber can help slow diarrhea.

Insoluble Fiber

Insoluble fiber adds bulk to stool, helping food pass more quickly through the stomach.

Foods such as wheat bran and whole grains contain insoluble fiber.

Insoluble fiber can help ease constipation.

Crude Fiber

Crude fiber is typically listed on pet food labels.

In labs, scientists treat food with dilute acid and alkali.

Crude fiber refers to the type of fiber remaining.

This treatment typically dissolves all soluble fiber and some insoluble fiber.

Benefits Of A Pumpkin Extract Supplement For Dogs

Dogs who scoot as a result of anal glad issues may benefit from the addition of pumpkin in their diet.

Pumpkin contains both soluble and insoluble fiber.

As such, it keeps stools soft and makes them easier to pass.

Additionally, pumpkin is low-calorie.

Additional fiber helps pups feel fuller faster and can aid in weight loss.

You can add pumpkin to your pet’s diet, but finding the correct dose may be tricky.

Additionally, you have to make sure your pet receives pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie mix.

A simpler way to administer pumpkin to your pet is in the form of a supplement.

A supplement containing other healthy sources of fiber such as flaxseed, dandelion root, and psyllium husk may benefit your pet.

Seeking an all-natural fiber supplement to prevent your dog from scooting?

Try giving your pet tasty Vet Classics No Scoot Soft Chews.

Give your pet 1 chew per 20 lbs twice daily and make sure they get plenty of water.
