Alternative Medicine refers to many different modalities which do not fit the mold of “Conventional Medicine”. These treatments are not part of the formal educational process.
Many alternative therapies rely upon the body’s innate ability to heal itself. This is accomplished by stimulating or suppressing the immune system. The body as a whole is considered with these therapies and prevention of disease is considered a primary goal. In contrast, traditional medicine is often reactionary and focuses on eliminating symptoms of disease.
